Cinco de Mayo 2006

For this year's Cinco de Mayo celebration in Sr. Jannke's Spanish II classes, students taught themselves how to do the Mexican hat dance, performed traditional music, learned modern Latin dance from Hector Torres, reenacted the battle of Pueblo, and experienced the joys of Mexican food.

Students demonstrated that they understood the fact that Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day and just an excuse to have a party. Students explained the fact that a small group of Mexican soldiers ousted the French from Mexico and perhaps changed the outcome of the U.S. Civil War. They learned why we in the U.S. celebrate this important day along side of our southern neighbor.
